Self-healing mechanisms and concepts for cementitious and mineral building materials

The SBO project SECEMIN was all about self-healing mechanisms and concepts for cementitious and mineral building materials. Important innovation goals in SECEMIN were:

  • Design of dedicated polymer-based healing agents and suitable encapsulation technologies
  • Use of microorganisms that provide self-generating concrete or stone surfaces
  • Obtain autonomous crack repair in innovative building materials with mineral matrix
  • Create a fully validated numerical model to simulate crack healing

The SECEMIN SBO project was linked to two other projects in the SHE program: SBO ISHECO and ICON SHECON.
